Somerled raises AKC Shetland sheepdogs in Burlington, Wisconsin, southwest of Milwaukee and within easy reach of the greater Chicago metro area. The program is led by Morgan Macdonald Manion, whose history with the breed goes back to 2003, when the family acquired their first sheltie for Morgan to compete in Junior Showmanship.

That early experience grew into an extensive show career. Morgan spent years traveling the country and went on to become the number one sheltie junior for four consecutive years, with her dog Flash ultimately earning recognition as a top five sheltie in 2007 and the number two sheltie in 2008. Mentorship under Linda Guihen of Raisin Shelties, as well as time working alongside well-regarded terrier handlers, shaped the program's grounding principle that the care, condition, and happiness of the dogs come before anything else.

Somerled breeds AKC Shetland sheepdogs for both the show ring and family homes, with an emphasis on dogs that are sound in body and temperament. Puppies are socialized extensively before they leave for their new homes, and the program reflects the hands-on, competition-tested background that defines its foundation.
