Smiling Moon Alpacas

Smiling Moon Alpacas has been raising alpacas in the rural hills of Allegany County, near Friendship, New York, since 2009, when Christina Gaeta and Thomas Burch started the farm with two huacaya fiber geldings. The herd has grown to include both huacaya and suri alpacas, making it a source for alpacas for sale in western New York not far from the Southern Tier region.

Over the years the farm has also developed a fiber side of the operation, producing alpaca-made goods including socks, gloves, and blankets from fleeces harvested on the property — a reflection of the hands-on, fiber-focused approach that has shaped the herd since its early days. The farm's roots in Friendship and its long tenure in Allegany County, roughly an hour southeast of Buffalo, speak to a program built steadily over more than fifteen years.
