SMH Ranch

SMH Ranch raises Scottish Highland cattle on 120 acres near Fairfield, Idaho, where the Soldier Mountains meet the Camas Prairie. The operation is the work of Dennis Stitt, a 39-year Army veteran whose grandfather kept a small self-sustaining farm in western Pennsylvania — a heritage that shapes the ranch's approach today.

The land sits at the edge of the Sawtooth Mountain range, about 90 miles east of Boise, and the nutrient-rich soils of the Camas Prairie play a central role in how the herd is managed. Hay is sourced from local Camas Prairie farmers, with a long-term goal of growing feed on the ranch's own ground. The program's focus on Highland cattle for sale in Idaho reflects a commitment to land stewardship, knowing where food comes from, and keeping small-scale ranching viable for future generations.
