Silver Street Alpaca Farm raises huacaya alpacas in Hinesburg, Vermont, about 19 miles southeast of Burlington. Heather and David Lynch own and operate the farm, where a clear focus on rare and uncommon color genetics sets the program apart from many alpaca breeders in Vermont.

The farm has developed a particular specialty in grey and rose grey alpacas, including dark silver grey, medium rose grey, and macho grey animals. Breeding decisions draw on carefully selected herdsire lines, including animals with Peruvian bloodlines and show records from regional competitions such as the Green Mountain Show, the Big E, and the North East Alpaca Expo.

Fiber quality is central to how the farm approaches its herd. Breeding, feeding, and processing choices are made with the end product in mind, and each hank of yarn produced is identified by the individual animal or animals whose fleece it contains. The farm raises its alpacas without synthetic dyes, working instead with the natural color range the herd produces. Each animal is known individually, with attention paid to temperament, maternal instincts, and fleece attributes such as staple length, density, and fineness.
