Sierra Prometida Alpaca Ranch

Sierra Prometida Alpaca Ranch raises huacaya alpacas on 40 acres in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico, about 25 miles southeast of Taos. The ranch sits in Black Lake, just south of Angel Fire, where the grassland terrain — dotted with wild iris, ponderosa pine, and aspen — provides the backdrop for Linda and Louis Crooks' herd.

The program focuses on huacaya alpacas with diverse bloodlines across a range of colors, with an emphasis on producing fine-quality animals. Sierra Prometida is a charter member of the North American Alpaca Fiber Producers, and its herd has earned recognition through an award-winning breeding program. Great Pyrenees dogs serve as livestock guardians for the herd.

For those searching for alpacas for sale in New Mexico, Sierra Prometida Alpaca Ranch represents a long-standing presence in the state's alpaca community. Fiber from the herd is put to practical use, including in yarn and hand-woven rugs.
