Shoulderbone Farms
Shoulderbone Farms, run by Debra G. Speyer, raises registered belted Galloway cattle in Madison, Virginia, in the foothills east of Shenandoah National Park and roughly 35 miles north of Charlottesville. The farm also keeps heritage white, brown, and black Galloway cattle, along with registered Highland cattle and Dorper sheep.
The breeding stock traces back to recognized herds including Aldermere, Ponderosa, Mitchell Ledge, Fearrington, Apple Hill, and RidgeTop — sources with award-winning pedigrees that inform the quality of belted Galloway cattle for sale in Virginia from this operation. Cattle and sheep are grass fed across 275 acres, raised without hormones and with no unnecessary antibiotics, and receive natural minerals, shade, fresh well water, and creek access year-round. Hay from the farm's own fields supplements grazing through the colder months.
Shoulderbone Farms is part of a conservation land trust dedicated to keeping Madison County agricultural land rural for future generations. The operation runs on solar energy, and the watershed areas of the property have been designed with wildlife in mind. Cattle from the farm are purchased by other operations for both breeding programs and grass-fed beef production.
