Shepherds Creek Alpacas

Shepherds Creek Alpacas has been raising alpacas in Trumansburg, New York, in the heart of the Finger Lakes region, about 10 miles from Ithaca. Barb and Marc Sodums first encountered alpacas in 2003 and built their program from the ground up, relocating over the years before settling at their current farm outside the village of Trumansburg.

Over roughly two decades, the Sodums have focused their breeding program on producing alpacas with soft, dense, and consistent fiber. Their herdsire Apollo earned recognition as the 2nd place high point male in the U.S. in 2022, reflecting the show-competitive caliber of their stock. The farm holds memberships in both the Empire Alpaca Association and MAPACA, and the herd of 12 to 20 animals includes show animals, breeding stock, and fiber animals.

The 15-acre property supports a care regimen that includes nutrition-tested hay, quality pasture access, and a clean, fan-cooled barn. Regular fecal testing and individual-basis treatment are part of the husbandry routine.
