Shamrock Nook Red Angus
Shamrock Nook Red Angus raises red Angus cattle in Albany, Wisconsin, in the Green County farming region about 45 minutes southwest of Madison. The operation is run by brothers Joe and Jim Dunphy, the fifth generation to farm land their Irish ancestors settled in 1845. The program has its roots in 1989, when Jim's interest in red Angus was sparked at the World Beef Expo following a dairy barn fire on the family property.
The herd's bull program offers 15 to 20 yearling bulls annually, with all bulls semen tested before leaving the farm. The operation also places select bulls on test at UW-Platteville, with those animals sold through the Wisconsin Beef Improvement Association bull sale each spring. Semen from proven herd sires is available as well, giving producers across the region additional options for incorporating Shamrock Nook genetics.
For those sourcing red Angus cattle in Wisconsin, the farm also participates in the Females of Fall Sale each November, a collaborative event organized alongside several other established Wisconsin red Angus programs. The Dunphy family's deep agricultural roots and multi-generational ties to the land reflect a program built on continuity as much as cattle selection.
