Shallow Creek Farm, LLC, run by Chuck Gendrow, raises Labrador retrievers in Wilsons, Virginia, a small community in the Southside region of the state roughly an hour south of Richmond. The program got its start in 1996 and was formally established in 2001, giving it a multi-decade track record among Labrador retriever breeders in Virginia.

The farm is AKC recognized and focuses on the English type of Labrador — a heavier-bodied build compared to the American or field style. Health testing goes well beyond the basics: all dogs are OFA certified for hips and elbows, and the program also screens for EIC, CNM, CERF, PRA, and cardiac conditions. Health documentation for both sire and dam is provided to new owners.

The dogs here are bred to be versatile. Shallow Creek's labs compete in AKC conformation showing, work as therapy and service dogs, and perform in the field. The farm has placed dogs as diabetic alert dogs and autism alert dogs, and some have gone on to serve with the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind. Chuck also offers training and testing toward the AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.
