Scott Tarpley - Next Level Kennels

Next Level Kennels in Henderson, North Carolina breeds and raises German shepherd dogs out of a working-dog background that dates to 2010. Owner Scott Tarpley, a New York native and former fire rescue professional with more than two decades of emergency services experience, originally founded the program with a focus on producing German shepherds for police and military work.

In 2019, Scott established a permanent facility in Henderson — about 45 minutes north of Raleigh — operating out of a 7,000-square-foot property set on rural acreage in Vance County. The kennel's working-dog roots still inform how dogs are raised and evaluated, with an emphasis on temperament, obedience, and socialization alongside the family before placement. German shepherd dog puppies in North Carolina from this program are raised in a hands-on environment where pups have contact with both the breeding dogs and the broader kennel setting from an early age.

The program also includes German shorthaired pointers. Alongside the breeding side of the operation, Next Level Kennels runs a full-service training and boarding facility, and a separate special operations group that places narcotic, explosive, and protection dogs in professional working roles.
