Scott Creek Farm

Scott Creek Farm has been raising Arabian-style miniature horses in Salem, Oregon since 1982, when Joanne Ross and her husband Larry started the program on property on the southeast edge of the city, about 45 miles south of Portland in the Willamette Valley.

Joanne's equestrian background runs deep — she rode on the OSU equestrian drill team, apprenticed as a farrier, and spent years breeding and showing quarter horses and paints before turning her focus to miniatures. The farm's breeding program centers on Arabian-influenced conformation, using selective crosses to refine the look of the miniature horse away from pony type and toward true horse-like elegance. All horses are dual-registered with both the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) and the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR), with AMHA standards capping height at 34 inches.

Scott Creek competes each year on the competitive Northwest show circuit, where entries commonly draw around 200 horses from across the West Coast, and the farm has produced consistent qualifiers for the AMHA World Show. Larry Ross has accumulated extensive hands-on expertise in foaling and reproductive health, and has been consulted by veterinarians and fellow breeders on complex foaling and breeding challenges. The farm also hosts Oregon State University's animal science reproductive class on a regular basis. Beyond show homes, Scott Creek miniature horses for sale in Oregon have also gone on to serve as certified therapy animals.
