Jolanta's path to the breed began after losing a previous dog to an enlarged heart, prompting two years of research into healthy, intelligent dogs with distinct traits. She and her husband traveled to the Czech Republic, sourced breeding stock from a well-respected Czech breeder, and in 2017 brought two females back with them to the United States. In 2022, Jolanta became the first person in North America to naturally breed and whelp a litter of bohemian shepherd puppies on American soil — a milestone that placed Schubertus at the center of establishing the breed in this country.

Before breeding, Jolanta invested years in preparation, completing vet tech training, becoming a certified dog trainer, and studying puppy-raising practices alongside experienced breeders.
