Scarlett's Happy Dookers

Scarlett's Happy Dookers has been breeding pet- and show-quality ferrets in Delaware, Ohio since 1992, making it one of the longer-running small-scale ferretries in central Ohio, about 30 miles north of Columbus. Owner Scarlett Gray-Saling began her program with her first two ferrets over three decades ago and has since built a line with an emphasis on conformation, disposition, health, and genetic diversity.

The bloodlines behind her ferrets are notably international, drawing from German, New Zealand, Finnish, Swedish, Hungarian, English, and Welsh lines blended with American stock, including some polecat heritage several generations back. Rather than inbreeding or line breeding, the program prioritizes a broad gene pool. Color variety in the program includes dark sables, black sables, champagnes, black roan mitts, black mitts, points, chocolates, roans, and albinos, with warm and cool color pairings tracked intentionally across litters.

On the show side, ferrets from this Delaware, Ohio ferret breeder have earned consistent placements at American Ferret Association championship events, including multiple AFA Ferret of the Year and Specialty Ferret of the Year awards, and several hobs and jills hold Gold Level AFA Championship status. The ferretry is ADV-free, with regular testing in place. The animals are housed in a dedicated converted-garage facility with climate control, play areas, and remote monitoring. Jills are bred only once per year and only for three years, after which retired animals become available for adoption alongside seasonal kits.
