Saltmarsh Ranch
Saltmarsh Ranch, run by Steve and Priscilla Weaver, has raised Soay sheep on a historic property in Jacksonville, Oregon, in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains along the Little Applegate River, roughly 15 miles southwest of Medford.
The ranch itself carries a long history, with the original barn and outbuildings dating to the 1880s homestead of Arthur B. Saltmarsh. Over the course of seventeen lambing seasons, the Weavers built their flock into one of the most recognized Soay programs in North America, at its peak maintaining more than 250 adults and lambs. Their focus throughout was conservation of British Soay sheep, a rare heritage breed, and they exported animals to Canada on multiple occasions, earning USDA export certification in connection with that work.
For those researching Soay sheep for sale in Oregon or on the West Coast, the ranch has served as a long-standing resource in the regional breeding community. The Weavers have indicated they are no longer actively breeding, but the ranch remains a reference point for locating RBST-registered Soay sources on the West Coast.
