Lil Swatara raises dairy crosses and Nigerian dwarf goats on a small homestead in Pennsylvania's Blue Mountains, in the rolling farm country northeast of Reading. Sally Sutherly has been keeping ADGA- and AGS-registered Nigerian dwarf goats since 2015, with a focus on herd health and careful record-keeping.

The herd is tested annually for CAE and Johnes, and complete test documentation travels with each animal. Kids are raised as bottle babies or dam-raised, and the program does not place single kids, reflecting a husbandry philosophy that treats herd companionship as a basic animal welfare standard. Dairy crosses round out the livestock side of the operation alongside the registered Nigerians.
