Roots and Dreams Farm, run by Kendra Cote and Brian Robson, raises Ayam Cemani chickens on their family homestead in Polo, Missouri, in the northwest corner of the state roughly an hour northeast of Kansas City.

Before establishing their breeding program, Kendra and Brian sourced hatching eggs and chicks from more than a dozen breeders to evaluate the stock broadly available in the U.S. That hands-on research shaped a deliberate selection process focused on pigment expression and body type, with additional attention paid to tongue color, comb shape, and a slimmer, gamier frame. Bloodlines were chosen specifically to avoid common faults seen in domestic Ayam Cemani stock, including comb sprigs, short legs, and overly wide bodies.
