River Bed Ranch
River Bed Ranch has been raising alpacas in Heber, Utah since 1991, making it one of the longer-running alpaca programs in the state. Carol Frazer and her late husband Tom founded the ranch in the early days of the U.S. alpaca industry, when the national herd numbered only a few thousand animals. The ranch sits on a 20-acre plot in Heber Valley, about an hour southeast of Salt Lake City in the Wasatch Back.
The herd includes both huacaya and suri alpacas, giving buyers looking for alpacas for sale in Utah access to both fiber types from a single, long-established source. Huacayas produce the short, crimpy fleece shorn annually each summer, while suris carry longer, flowing fiber and are typically shorn on a two-year cycle.
