Rhyant Rock Farms

Rhyant Rock Farms raises Soay sheep in Evansburg, Alberta, about half an hour west of Edmonton. Carla Amonson, who farms with her son Rhys, brings a lifelong agricultural background to the operation, having grown up on a mixed farm in the interior of British Columbia before relocating to Alberta in 2006.

The Soay flock was carefully built from the ground up starting in 2007, with all foundation animals imported from the United States. Additional rams were brought in over subsequent years to broaden the genetics available to buyers seeking Soay sheep for sale in Alberta. Katahdin sheep are also part of the farm's program, selected for strong conformation and reliable mothering instinct.

Lambs are raised on pasture under a rotational grazing system managed to support both grass production and soil health, with limited supplemental feed over winter. No antibiotics or hormones are used on any animals. Breeding stock ships across Canada, and the farm also maintains a flock of Icelandic chickens, sourced from genetics spanning the original imports to North America.
