Que Sera Alpacas

Que Sera Alpacas raises huacaya alpacas on a working ranch in the Eldorado area of Santa Fe, New Mexico, about ten miles southeast of the city's historic downtown. Owner Anne Stallcup has been running the ranch since 2008, building a herd that has at times numbered close to 95 animals.

The program places a clear emphasis on fiber quality. The focus is on breeding lines that hold their micron count within a narrow four-to-five micron range across the animals' lifetimes — a trait that distinguishes fleece that stays fine with age from fleece that coarsens quickly. Density, long staple length, organized crimp, and brightness round out the selection criteria Stallcup applies to her huacaya herd. The ranch has produced show-competitive animals, including a herdsire that earned a Color Champion title at the Great Western Alpaca Show.

Beyond breeding, Que Sera functions as a full-circle fiber operation. The ranch produces grade-one fleece that is processed into hand-spun and mill-spun yarns, rovings, and finished goods sold through an on-site boutique stocked with work from local craftspeople. Stallcup also boards alpacas for other area owners and has built a reputation as a knowledgeable resource for those new to the breed. For anyone exploring alpaca breeders in New Mexico, Que Sera Alpacas represents a long-running, fiber-focused program with roots deep in the Santa Fe region.
