Pat Blank raises dairy cross goats at Black Eagle Ranch in Shell Rock, Iowa, a small farming community in Butler County about 20 miles northeast of Waterloo. The herd name is permanently registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA), and Black Eagle Ranch holds active memberships in the American Goat Society (AGS) and the Nigerian Dairy Goat Association as well. Health testing is a consistent part of the program; the herd tested negative for CAE, CL, and Johnes in 2023. Kids are dam-raised but handled daily to keep them socialized and comfortable around people.

Black Eagle Ranch has been involved in 4-H placement for years, with Pat selling a significant portion of the herd to youth project homes. The ranch also participates in the Iowa Dairy Goat Association's Share-a-Kid program, donating doelings to 4-H and FFA youth who could not otherwise afford a registered animal.
