Our Father's Farm
Our Father's Farm raises huacaya alpacas in New Hampton, New York, in the Hudson Valley region of Orange County, about 15 miles southeast of Middletown. Kathy and Joe Paternoster run the farm with a clear focus on genetics, drawing from a wide range of notable bloodlines to steadily improve their herd.
The breeding program is built around producing offspring that surpass their parents in measurable fiber traits, including fineness, density, crimp, staple architecture, and staple length, alongside sound conformation, correct bite, and good temperament. The animals have competed at major shows and fleece competitions in the region, and results in the ring have helped validate the foundation animals selected for the program. Alpaca breeders in New York seeking well-documented huacaya genetics will find a herd shaped by deliberate selection rather than volume.
The farm also produces fiber goods from its herd and participates in farmers markets, giving the program a working-farm dimension beyond the show pen. Visits to see the animals are by appointment.
