On The Bluff Labradors

On The Bluff Labradors has been breeding English Labrador retrievers in Germantown, New York for nearly 50 years, making it one of the longer-running programs for the breed in the Hudson Valley region, about an hour and a half north of New York City.

The program draws on stud dogs with lineage tracing back to multiple Grand Champions, including connections to Lubberline's Martingale, a multiple Westminster winner. Females are selected to complement those lines, with the goal of producing Labrador retriever puppies that are sound in both structure and temperament.

All breeding dogs undergo genetic testing and joint screening to confirm they carry no heritable problems before being approved for the program. Colors represented in the kennel include black, chocolate, fox red, and lighter-coated English labs. On The Bluff also runs an in-house training academy that works with puppies from eight weeks of age, using positive reinforcement and an individualized curriculum that covers basic obedience, crate training, potty training, and socialization to everyday sounds and handling.
