Old Crowe Farm
Old Crowe Farm raises heritage American Guinea hogs on a 132-acre certified organic property in Red Oak, Virginia, situated in Charlotte County in south-central Virginia, roughly 23 miles from South Boston and about 97 miles southwest of Richmond.
Jim and Jacqueline Moyer purchased the farm in 2003, taking stewardship of a tract of land with roots stretching back to the mid-1800s. Their guiding philosophy centers on allowing animals to express their natural behaviors — a principle the farm summarizes plainly as "let our pigs be pigs" — alongside a commitment to soil health, transparency in farming practices, and humane animal care.
The operation is pasture-based and certified organic, with the hogs raised alongside Dexter cattle, Tennessee fainting goats, and free-ranging poultry. American Guinea hog breeders in Virginia are relatively few, and the Moyers have focused on this rare heritage breed with an eye toward preserving genetics that were once common on small American homesteads but have since become scarce. Farm tours and educational programming are also part of the operation, giving prospective buyers an opportunity to see the animals and the land firsthand before making a decision.
