Ocerico Sloughis

Ocerico Sloughis, based in Saint Charles, Illinois, has been one of the most active and decorated sloughi programs in the United States, with roots in the breed going back to the early 1990s. Erika Wyatt's connection to the sloughi began in 1990, and she has been involved with the American Sloughi Association since 2002, serving continuously as an officer or board member ever since.

The program holds a singular record in the breed's American history. The top-winning sloughis in the U.S. for every year from 2005 through 2024, the first AKC Best in Show sloughi, the first AKC Grand Champion, and the most titled sloughi in U.S. history are all owned or bred by Ocerico Sloughis. Among them is GCHB Itri Ocerico BCAT FITB, the top-winning sloughi in AKC history and the only sloughi to ever earn an AKC Best in Show.

Located about 35 miles west of Chicago in the Fox River Valley, Ocerico is the only AKC Breeder of Merit sloughi breeder, adhering strictly to the Code of Ethics of the national parent club, the American Sloughi Association. All sloughis are DNA tested and OFA CHIC registered prior to breeding. The dogs live in the home as family members, and litters are raised underfoot using the Puppy Culture system.

Preservation is a central focus of the program. Over the decades, Ocerico has imported more country-of-origin sloughis than anyone else in the United States, believing that thoughtful, ethical importation is essential to maintaining the breed's authenticity and genetic diversity.
