ME Water Buffalo Co. raises water buffalo on a family homestead in Appleton, Maine, in the midcoast region about 20 miles inland from Camden. Brian and Jessica Farrar operate the farm with a whole-herd philosophy, using the animals for both meat and dairy production.

The herd is pasture-raised on hay and grass, with no hormones, chemicals, or additives involved in their care. In 2013, the operation became the first licensed water buffalo dairy in the state of Maine, and the on-site creamery remains state licensed. Meat is USDA inspected.
