Mayfield Farm
Mayfield Farm, run by Shannon and Craig Mayfield, raises registered Soay sheep in Pendleton, Oregon, in the high country of eastern Oregon near the Blue Mountains, roughly two hours east of the Tri-Cities area of Washington.
The flock got its start around 2009, when Shannon sourced a young mouflon herdsire from a breeder in the La Grande area and added five registered ewes from an established Soay operation in Washington state. The Soays for sale in Oregon that have come out of Mayfield Farm trace back to carefully chosen foundation animals carrying documented registration numbers. Blackbelly Barbados hair sheep have also been part of the farm at various points, adding variety to a small mixed-flock setup suited to the dry, open landscape of Umatilla County.
The farm describes itself as a working small farm with a practical orientation, valuing the Soay's low-input qualities, including natural shedding and ease of management, over higher-input breeds.
