Martson Farm
Martson Farm raises purebred Scottish Highland cattle outside Molalla, Oregon, about 30 miles south of Portland. The operation is run by William F. Martson, Jr., whose family connection to the land stretches back to their purchase of the historic Bagby homestead in 1974.
The herd has grown since its start with a single cow and calf in 1992 and now numbers in the hundreds, grazing across roughly 300 acres of pasture and forest in the Molalla area. Anyone looking for Highland cattle in Oregon will find a program with more than 30 years of continuous experience behind it.
The farm raises its animals exclusively on grass, brush, hay, and haylage — no grain, and no sub-therapeutic antibiotics or hormones. The herd is split into production groups that rotate through separate pastures, and the cattle's natural browsing habits are used intentionally for pasture and timberland improvement. The farm also maintains a close eye on soil health, fertilizing pastures based on regular soil sampling.
