Marble Mountain Kennels raises Labrador retrievers in Montague, California, in the Shasta Valley near Yreka — a rural stretch of far northern California with sweeping views of Mount Shasta.

Founded by Pete Morrill, the kennel began as a hobby when Pete started breeding Labs while working as a full-time camp director, with what grew from a family project into a dedicated, family-run operation. The dogs are raised in what the kennel describes as the heart of the Pacific Flyway, where quail, pheasant, and ducks are still part of the local landscape — a setting that informs their whole approach to the breed.

The program's defining focus is the pointing Labrador retriever, selecting for dogs that can work both upland game and waterfowl with equal ability. Disposition is treated as equally important: gentle temperament and thorough socialization are central to every breeding, with the goal of producing dogs that are as comfortable in a family home as they are in a duck blind or field trial. Most of the kennel's breeding females are placed with families through a partner breeder arrangement rather than housed on site. The kennel also offers structured training programs, from basic obedience to advanced hunting preparation for both waterfowl and upland work. Labrador retriever puppies from this northern California program have gone on to work in search and rescue, detection work, and competitive hunt tests.
