Maplehill Highlands

Maplehill Highlands Scottish Highland cattle in Stanwood, MI, west Michigan near Grand Rapids, thrive under Chris and Dawn Manthei. They have bred Scottish Highland cattle for more than a decade, participating in national herd books and conducting routine health testing.

Calves are raised in open pastures with shelter built from reclaimed barn timber, and daily handling fosters calm temperaments. Young calves are introduced to children and barn cats to encourage a calm, inquisitive nature. The cattle graze rotationally on mixed grasses and receive year-round hoof care and veterinary check-ups.

Maplehill Highlands sits on land that has been in the Manthei family since the early 1900s, blending tradition with modern husbandry practices. Each animal’s diet is supplemented with minerals formulated to support the Highland breed’s resilience in colder months. Their gentle temperament and sturdy build reflect the breed’s heritage and the Mantheis’ attentive care.
