Lookout Mountain Growers
Lookout Mountain Growers raises fainting (myotonic) goats in Snow Camp, North Carolina, about 30 miles southwest of Burlington in the Piedmont region. Harriet and Steve O'Rear relocated the operation to Snow Camp after years of raising myotonics on Lookout Mountain in Georgia, settling onto roughly fifty acres to continue the herd they had carefully built.
The foundation genetics trace back to some of the most respected myotonic programs in the country. The O'Rears sourced original stock from breeders including Bending Tree Ranch, Onion Creek Ranch, Wolf River Ranch, and Coyote Creek Ranch, among others, traveling from Tennessee to Texas to Florida to Missouri to assemble the bloodlines they wanted. Those names remain visible in the pedigrees of animals produced at the farm today.
Land stewardship is a consistent focus of their approach. The O'Rears have worked to improve pasture quality through rotational cross-fencing, spring and fall forage plantings, and composting practices, with the goal of supporting the health and condition of the herd from the ground up. Buyers looking for fainting goat breeders in North Carolina will find a program built on carefully selected genetics and hands-on land management going back many years.
