Lonetree Ranch

Lonetree Ranch is a family-run Scottish highland cattle ranch in Butte, ND, serving Morton County and the Missouri River valley near Bismarck. With more than 15 years of experience, it holds active membership in the American Highland Cattle Association and the North Dakota Beef Producers Council, and conducts comprehensive health testing for breeding pairs. Its cattle graze on open native grassland and receive daily health checks and gentle handling to foster their natural docility and resilience.

The ranch remains family owned, with Austin Hetland drawing on traditional husbandry passed down through three generations on the Northern Plains. Herding practices emphasize early socialization, allowing calves to adapt to varied weather conditions, learn basic handling routines, and establish a calm temperament. Animals mature on sunlit pasture before moving to spacious, well-drained paddocks that support their well-being and reflect the breed’s hardy heritage.
