Ks Farms, Scottish highland cattle, Hartshorn, MO, in Texas County and the Ozark Highlands near Springfield. Sondra Howell has devoted many years to breeding highland cattle, maintaining membership in the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and following recommended herd health protocols. All cattle are registered with the American Highland Cattle Association, and foundation herds undergo health testing for Johne’s disease and other concerns. The animals graze on open pasture and are handled daily to encourage calm interaction, with year-round shelter provided in open-front barns fitted with fresh bedding.

The farm sits on working family land and prioritizes rotational grazing to support soil health and animal well-being. Calves grow up alongside adults in a low-stress environment that reflects a holistic care philosophy. Natural forage and supplementary hay during winter months ensure balanced nutrition without reliance on intensive feeds. Many of the cattle display the gentle temperament valued by smallholders and family farms.
