Kooskia Highlanders

Kooskia Highlanders raise Scottish highland cattle in Kamiah, ID, Idaho County and the Clearwater region near Lewiston. James Renshaw and Vonnita Renshaw are guided by national breed association standards and follow recommended health screening protocols for genetic conditions, parasite control, and overall herd wellness. Their cattle graze on diverse, rotational pastures across the family’s 763 Kidder Ridge Rd. farm, with access to sheltered loafing areas and fresh water year-round.

Calves remain with their dams in secure paddocks until they transition to mixed herd groups, allowing gentle acclimation to both humans and livestock companions. The breeders also harvest their own timothy hay and plan pastures to support soil health and nutritional balance across seasons. Families and smallholders in the region value the cattle’s consistent weight gain, easygoing temperaments, and traceable pedigrees. Their participation in occasional county fairs helps maintain community ties and offers informal feedback on conformation and performance.
