Katharine Craft
Katharine Craft raises registered Nigerian dwarf dairy goats in Gloucester, Virginia, a rural community on the Middle Peninsula about 45 minutes east of Richmond.
The farm, known as Craftmade Manor, grew out of a family desire to know exactly where their food was coming from. What began with a small backyard chicken flock gradually expanded into a working small farm, adding a large seasonal garden and eventually Nigerian dwarf goats as a focus breed.
From the start, the Craft family chose to work exclusively with registered animals, a decision that led them toward formal evaluation through Linear Appraisal and DHIA milk testing. That commitment paid off when, in 2019, several of their does earned Superior Genetics (SG) designations through DHIR milk test. Craftmade Manor also offers DHIA testing services to surrounding farms through Langston DHIA, Lancaster DHIA, and Dairy One DHIA. English Orpington chickens round out the farm's livestock program alongside the dairy goat crosses.
