Hoyt Miniature Cattle Company
Hoyt Miniature Cattle Company runs a miniature Highland and Highpark breeding program in Collbran, CO, in Mesa County on the Western Slope near Grand Junction. The ranch sits in the foothills of the Grand Mesa, and the program is partnered with RCM Miniature Cattle Company.
The miniature program began with its first females in January 2022. The herd now has just over 50 females and 6 bulls, including the sires HMC Double Stitch and HMC Tug. Calves are grouped by year, with calf crops recorded for 2024, 2025 and 2026. Besides its miniature cattle, the ranch keeps a commercial Angus herd.
Cattle are herd animals that do well with steady routines, enough room to graze, clean water and regular attention from the people who raise them. Anyone thinking about buying cattle should plan for fencing, feed through the seasons and access to a large-animal veterinarian. In this high-country part of western Colorado, ranching has long been part of daily life in the valleys and on the mesas.
