Hilltop Reindeer Ranch

Hilltop Reindeer Ranch raises reindeer on the Colorado prairie east of Colorado Springs, near the community of Peyton. Beth Genz and Kathy Winkler founded the ranch in 2022, bringing a background in professional animal care to the operation — Genz pursued a zookeeping degree at Pikes Peak State College and worked at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, while Winkler manages a veterinary clinic.

The ranch started with two reindeer calves and has since grown to a herd of five. Care and handling are hands-on, with the animals accustomed to close human interaction. The ranch is a family-run operation, and the animals are worked regularly to maintain their calm temperament around people.

Those looking for reindeer in Colorado will find Hilltop Reindeer Ranch to be one of the few small, privately owned herds in the region, situated on open prairie land with Pikes Peak visible in the distance.
