Hillcrest Farm

Hillcrest Farm, a family-run alpaca herd in Sauquoit, NY, is located in Oneida County and the Central New York region near Syracuse. John Hargreaves has been working with alpacas for several years and follows Alpaca Owners Association guidelines for health testing and breeding records.

The alpacas live on pasture with access to shelter and are handled daily to foster calm temperaments. Nursery pens adjacent to the main barn allow mothers and crias to bond in a clean environment. Fiber from each animal is processed on-site for small-batch textiles and occasional local craft markets. A recent visitor noted the gentle nature of the herd and the hands-on approach to animal welfare.

Hillcrest Farm participates in regional fiber festivals and has received recognition for the softness of its fleece. The pasture-based herd thrives under a rotational grazing system that supports both animal health and land stewardship.
