Hazard Alpacas
Hazard Alpacas raises alpacas in Jamul, set in the back country of east San Diego County, roughly an hour east of downtown San Diego. Rick and Patti Hazard run the operation with a focus on producing quality animals alongside a full fiber program rooted in the fleece their own herd produces.
The ranch is home to a herd of around 30 alpacas, and the Hazards shear their animals once a year, sending the fiber to a local mini-mill for processing. All the natural colors the herd produces are available, as well as blended colors from two or more animals, resulting in yarn, roving, and raw fleece that reflect the diversity of the herd itself.
Those looking for alpacas for sale in California can also experience the farm firsthand. Hazard Alpacas opens the ranch to visitors one weekend each month, offering a free, no-reservation setting where guests can meet the animals and learn about alpacas and their fiber directly on the property.
