Gene Dershewitz

Gene Dershewitz has been raising French alpine dairy goats under the Missdee's herd name in Marion, Oregon, in the Willamette Valley south of Salem, since the early 1970s. The program traces its foundation stock back to 1979, when the first purebred Alpine sire, Hill N Holler Starbuck, was acquired, and the herd has been based on the same seven-acre farm ever since.

The show record built over the decades reflects a long-standing focus on breed type and production. Does from this program have earned Reserve Grand Champion and Best Udder of Breed honors at national competition, and Missdee's Nadiya took Grand Champion Alpine at the 1995 ADGA National Show in Salem. Alpha-s1 casein testing is part of how individual animals are evaluated, and webcams are used throughout the farm to monitor the herd.

Gene is also the creator of ADGA Genetics, a widely used pedigree and genetic evaluation tool within the American Dairy Goat Association community. Those looking for dairy crosses or French alpine dairy goats in Oregon from a program with deep generational roots will find Missdee's to be one of the more thoroughly documented herds in the region.
