Foster's Trail & Alpaca Farm
Foster's Trail & Alpaca Farm raises huacaya alpacas on a five-plus acre property in Cleveland, Tennessee, in the Appalachian foothills about 30 minutes north of Chattanooga. Susan and Peter Goodwin founded the farm in May 2007 after converting their pastureland into a working alpaca operation, naming the property after their Australian Terrier, Foster.
The farm's foundation herd was built from a carefully selected mix of elite Peruvian bloodlines, including 4Peruvian Legacy, 2Peruvian Augusto, and 2Peruvian Caligula, among others. More recent additions have brought in genetics from Snowmass Matrix, Accoyo America Polaris, and related championship lines. Herdsires are evaluated against a specific set of criteria covering fiber fineness measured in microns, fiber density, conformation, and show ring performance, with the goal of consistently passing those traits to offspring.
For anyone researching alpacas for sale in Tennessee, the farm offers females bred to its champion herdsires as well as their offspring. Fleece-based products, including yarn, roving, and finished goods, are also part of what the farm produces from its herd.
