Flying Iron Ranch
Flying Iron Ranch raises huacaya alpacas on 35 acres atop a mesa on Colorado's western slope, in Ouray County just outside Montrose. Christine Brown and her partner established the ranch in 2014, starting with four foundation females and building the herd from there.
The program centers on diverse bloodlines drawn from well-regarded lines including Jeremiah, Zephyrus, and Quechua, with a clear emphasis on show-quality fiber and conformation. The ranch's champion herdsires — among them the 14-time champion FIR Diamante's Jetson — reflect that focus, and herdsire breedings are offered to outside programs seeking alpacas for sale in Colorado with competitive genetics behind them. Mentoring and agistment services are also available for those newer to alpaca ownership.
Flying Iron Ranch is a member of Alpaca Breeders of the Rockies and the Alpaca Owners Association, and participates in AOA National Shows. The ranch also has a strong agritourism presence in the Grand Junction and Telluride region, hosting farm tours and community events, and operates a farm store featuring handmade products produced from the ranch's own harvested fleece.
