Flying Iron Ranch

Flying Iron Ranch is a small-scale alpaca breeder in Montrose, CO. Situated in Montrose County and the Uncompahgre Valley near Grand Junction, the ranch combines high-elevation pasture with gentle handling. The farm’s origins date back to a family-owned horse facility, lending decades of livestock experience to the alpaca herd.

Owner Christine Brown has cultivated this herd over more than ten years, adhering to Alpaca Owners Association guidelines and routine health screenings. Each cria receives daily socialization to promote calm temperaments and strong fibre development. Fencing and shelter are designed to suit mountain weather, while a local veterinarian conducts regular checkups and parasite control.

The ranch emphasizes fleece quality, with several animals earning state fair recognition for their dense, uniform fleeces. Fibre processing follows best practice grading and gentle handling, resulting in a soft, durable product, and educational farm events introduce visitors to sustainable alpaca care and fibre arts.
