Flathead Farms

Flathead Farms raises registered Highland cattle in the Flathead Valley of northwestern Montana, near the city of Kalispell. Mike and Pam Mower operate the family-owned ranch at roughly 3,000 feet elevation, where the region's moderate rainfall and natural pasture suit the breed well.

The herd is managed without growth hormones, steroids, or sub-therapeutic antibiotics. During winter months, cattle are fed alfalfa hay grown and harvested on the farm itself; come summer, they move to mountain pasture and graze on natural grass with only salt provided as a supplement. Calves are vaccinated and wormed at weaning according to the standards set by the American Highland Cattle Association's Quality Highland Beef program, of which Flathead Farms is a member.

For anyone searching for Highland cattle for sale in Montana, the operation produces both registered breeding stock and grassfed beef under the same husbandry principles. The ranch's commitment to humane handling and all-natural rearing runs consistently across both sides of the program.
