Elm Hollow Farm

Elm Hollow Farm raises AHCA-registered highland cattle on nearly 90 acres in Treadway, Tennessee, on the north side of Clinch Mountain in Hawkins County — roughly an hour northeast of Knoxville. Nancy Geller runs the operation as an eco-friendly small family farm, selecting for calm temperament, correct conformation, and the traditional Scottish size rather than the oversized stock common in some commercial programs.

The fold carries roughly 30 breeding-age cows, all fully registered with the American Highland Cattle Association. Calves are halter trained and vaccinated before leaving the farm, and the herd has been tested for the nt281 double-muscling gene — a proactive health measure that few highland cattle breeders in Tennessee have undertaken. The current herd sire, WKA Braxton, earned first place Judge's Choice honors at the 2023 International Highland Cattle Virtual Show and placed second in the same category in 2025, with collected semen available for breeders seeking his genetics.

The farm operates on sustainable principles, including over 20kW of solar panel installations that fully offset its power consumption, and practices rotational grazing to reduce chemical inputs across the pastures. Elm Hollow also functions as an animal sanctuary for rescue horses and other heritage livestock. Membership in the AHCA and several regional associations informs the program's ongoing development, and farm tours are available by appointment for those looking to learn more about the breed firsthand.
