Elkens Labradors

Elkens Labradors has been raising Labrador retrievers in Valley Springs, California for over 38 years, with owner Eleonore Diehr building the program around AKC conformation, obedience, and field work. The kennel name itself is a blend of Eleonore and her husband Ken's names, and their daughter Olivia has since joined the operation as an active part of the breeding team.

The program produces Labrador retriever puppies in yellow (ranging from light cream to fox red), black, and chocolate — with no dilute colors bred. Dogs are selected to balance field-capable drive with the stable, bench-style temperament that suits family life or therapy work. One of the kennel's stud dogs earned both his AKC Grand Championship and his Master Hunter title, making him one of only 16 Labradors to have achieved both at the time.

All breeding dogs go through comprehensive health screening, including OFA evaluations for hips, elbows, eyes, and heart, along with full DNA panels covering PRA, EIC, and additional hereditary conditions.
