Desert Mirage Alpaca Ranch

Desert Mirage Alpaca Ranch raises alpacas in Wittmann, Arizona, out in the Sonoran Desert roughly 45 miles northwest of Phoenix. Sandi and Chuck Baxter run the operation as a four-generation family business, and their herd has grown to around 44 animals over more than 18 years of raising alpacas in Arizona.

The ranch places a strong emphasis on education, hosting classes several times a year so that prospective owners and curious visitors can learn hands-on what alpaca care actually involves. The herd is raised with fiber quality as a central goal, and the alpacas are trained to be halter-friendly and have competed in shows, bringing home ribbons over the years.

On the property, the Baxters also operate a small store stocked with clothing and goods made from fiber produced by their own animals, alongside items sourced from Peru.
