Deerpark
Deerpark, run by Denise Dean in Parks, Arizona, has been breeding Bernese mountain dogs since 1978, making it one of the longer-running programs for the breed in the Southwest. Parks sits in the ponderosa pine country of northern Arizona, roughly 30 miles west of Flagstaff. Dean has been active in purebred dogs since 1975 and holds life membership in the Flagstaff Kennel Club, along with membership in the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America and the Berger Picard Club.
The program has a strong show history, having bred and owned the number-one male Bernese mountain dog in the country in 1988, when the dog also won the National Specialty. Health records for the Bernese mountain dogs in the program are tracked through the Bernergarde registry, where pedigree and health data are publicly accessible by individual dog number. Dean has been an AKC conformation judge since 1997 and has worked as a dog groomer for over four decades.
More recently, Deerpark expanded into the Berger Picard, a rare French herding breed. The program includes an import from France and emphasizes health testing across both breeds. Families searching for Bernese mountain dog puppies in Arizona or looking to learn more about the Berger Picard will find a deep well of experience behind this program.
