Curlessence

Curlessence — operating under the cattery name Curl Essence — has been breeding American curl cats in Murrieta, California, in the greater Inland Empire region southeast of Los Angeles, since 2003. Mike Bull and his wife Linda started the program and have grown it into one of the more established American curl catteries on the West Coast, participating in both CFA and TICA show circuits over more than two decades.

The program carries lines that include Grand Champion, Supreme Grand Champion, and Regional and National Winner bloodlines, and Curl Essence cats have earned titles in both associations across multiple show years. Recent highlights include a 2022 Regional Winner for Best American curl longhair of the year and a Supreme Grand Champion title in TICA. Cats from the program also compete internationally, with Curl Essence lines placed in other countries.

Mike has served as Breed Council Secretary for the American curl in CFA, and Linda has held a position on TICA's American curl Breed Committee — roles that reflect a long-standing involvement in breed stewardship beyond the cattery itself. The program has also participated in public education efforts alongside the breed's founders, including exhibition appearances at the OC Pet Expo.

Kitten socialization is a deliberate focus of the program. The cattery places emphasis on individual attention during the final weeks before placement, with the goal of shaping the social temperament each kitten carries into its new home. All cats in the program are longhair, and kittens are produced in a full range of colors.
