Cross D Ranch

Cross D Ranch raises Pembroke Welsh corgis on a working farm in Fair Grove, Missouri, about 25 miles north of Springfield. Owner Elissa Dodson and her family run the program with a hands-on approach rooted in daily interaction between the puppies and their six children.

Litters are whelped and raised inside the family home, where puppies grow accustomed to the sights, sounds, and rhythms of a busy household before moving to new families. Play sessions with their mother continue well past weaning as part of early socialization, and each puppy is regularly handled, held, and has its nails trimmed from the start.

On the health side, Cross D Ranch tests all breeding dogs for degenerative myelopathy (DM) and breeds only to produce puppies with a DM clear or carrier status — a deliberate step that sets the program apart from many Pembroke Welsh corgi breeders in Missouri. Puppies leave with a veterinary health check, a first round of vaccinations covering distemper, parvovirus, and related diseases, and a de-worming schedule begun at two weeks of age.
