Ciaobella Labrador Retrievers, run by Sybille Nelson, raises Labrador retrievers on a 28-plus-acre farm in Troutville, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Valley region just southwest of Roanoke. The program holds AKC Breeder of Merit status and received the 2021 Outstanding Community Service Award from the Federation of Dog Breeders.

The breeding dogs are kept as fully integrated family members in the home rather than in a kennel setting, and all are working companions with conformation show and performance credentials. Each dog undergoes a comprehensive health testing protocol that includes OFA hip and elbow evaluations, cardiology clearance by a veterinary cardiologist, annual ophthalmology exams, and an extended genetic panel covering conditions such as PRA, CNM, EIC, DM, and HNPK, among others.

Puppies are assessed against up to 33 temperament traits before placement and are raised from birth with structured socialization and enrichment designed to build confidence and working ability. The program places Labrador retriever puppies in the Roanoke area and beyond into family companion homes, pet therapy roles, university canine ambassador positions, AKC sport homes, and service dog organizations. Only positive, motivational training methods are used, and the program maintains a lifetime commitment to every dog placed.
