Cheryl Stahl
Cheryl Stahl has been raising dairy goats in Missoula, Montana since 2005, when Hickory Leaf Dairy Goats was first established in Texas before relocating to the Missoula Valley in western Montana. The farm shares 300 acres with a working sheep and cattle operation, giving the goat herd plenty of room to thrive in the broader Missoula region near the Clark Fork River corridor.
The program centers on Nigerian dwarf and LaMancha dairy goats, along with mini Nubian crosses, all registered through both the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) and the American Goat Society (AGS). Health testing is a cornerstone of the operation: the herd is tested annually for Brucellosis, Q Fever, CAE, Listeria, and Johne's disease, and milk is tested on a regular basis for somatic cell count and overall udder health. Genetics are sourced from established lines and, at times, complemented by additions from other clean herds.
For anyone looking for dairy goat crosses in Montana, Hickory Leaf represents a program with a long history of dual attention to show quality and raw milk production. Cheryl has also earned recognition for artisan cheeses produced from the herd's milk, reflecting the farm's broader interest in the full dairy chain from animal to table.
